Polish Alphabets on the Web

In order to make information available on the internet without requiring use of special Polish fonts, many internet users have adopted the following alphabetical convention.

The Polish alphabet as it appears over the internet to non-Polish speakers:

a a~ b c c~ d e e~ f g h i j k l l~ m

n n~ o o~ p r s s~ t u w y z z~ z|

The "~" (tilde symbol) after a letter means that previous letter has an accent or slash over it for the letters c,n,o,s and z; or a hook under under it in the case of a and e; or a line through the letter for "l". Finally z| means a dot over the "z".

If you would like to download Polish fonts for use in displaying the characters correctly.
