| Polish
National Alliance (PNA) Lodges |
By Dr. Paul S. Valasek
PolishRoots is proud to be able to bring you this list of lodges
of the Polish National Alliance (PNA), Zwiazek Narodowy Polski (ZNP)
in Polish. The database was compiled
from lists provided to PolishRoots by officers of the PNA and is
meant to assist in researching our ancestors' participation in
organized Polonia. These lodges, also known as societies and groups,
began with lodge #1 in Philadelphia at the organization of the
Polish National Alliance on February 15, 1880. This initial lodge
was soon followed by lodges 2, 3, 4, and 5 in Chicago, 6 in La
Crosse, WI, 7 in San Francisco and 9 in Cleveland, all founded by
October of 1880.
The original list is 90% in Polish, and PolishRoots has
translated it for the use of our many non-Polish speaking
researchers. We would like to extend a very sincere thank you to
Jerry Kucharski and Malgorzata Kot for their efforts in translating
both lodge names and status of each lodge. The lodge names are
reflective of past times, attitudes, and ideals of Poles at the time
each individual lodge was formed.
For those researchers who have additional information on the
formation of these lodges, as well as any past or current addresses,
please contact
PolishRoots so that we may be able to add to our
understanding of Polish fraternalism.
For information on the Names behind the lodge names,
check out our Biographies.
